The Solvay Mountains ( French Monts Solvay ) are over 1500 m high mountain range , which extends east-northeast-west-southwest in the south of the Brabant Island in the Palmer Archipelago .
It was discovered during the Belgica expedition (1897–1899) led by the Belgian polar explorer Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery . It is named after the Belgian entrepreneur and philanthropist Ernest Solvay (1838–1922), a sponsor of the expedition. Originally, the naming of the entire east coast of the island was reserved, but was later limited to the mountains to the south, as there is no defined mountain range further north.
