history
BIA Kunststoff- und Galvanotechnik GmbH & Co. KG was founded in December 1996 by Jörg Püttbach. The company took over the remaining business of plastic injection molding and plastic electroplating from the Wuppertal automotive supplier Happich with 60 employees. The change in management from a distant group to a medium-sized, owner-managed company with long-term goals and regional roots developed successfully. The modernization and expansion of the electroplating systems and injection molding machines, innovations and patents have increased capacities and created new jobs. BIA currently employs around 1,020 people in Solingen. Around 1,900 people work in the BIA Group with sister companies and joint ventures in China and Slovakia .
Business areas
BIA produces plastic components with a metallic surface for the automotive industry. The core competence lies in the area of electroplating and the associated requirements for the upstream and downstream processes. The company offers construction, toolmaking, injection molding and electroplating. BIA developments have led to new patented processes and surfaces. The use of the patented BIA night design enables backlit symbols and surfaces for galvanized components, so-called ambient light. Brush structures and textured surfaces such as BIA Texture Chrome complete the portfolio and strengthen the company's innovation leadership. Chrome-plated components can be found u. a. in the interior and exterior of many premium vehicles from all well-known European manufacturers.
Corporate structure
In addition to BIA Kunststoff- und Galvanotechnik GmbH & Co.KG, the affiliated companies Biacchessi GmbH & Co.KG, Solingen, and BIA Forst GmbH in Forst (formerly DHR) as well as a stake in Schreiber Kunststofftechnik (SKT) belong to the BIA group of the owner-managed family company ) in Hofstetten . In addition, BIA is involved in the joint venture Wuxi BIA, in Wuxi , China (joint venture partner is Beijing WKW Automotive Parts Co., Ltd.) and BIA Slovakia in Nitra , Slovakia (with the French company Groupe Plastivaloire). Another location in San Luis Potosí San Luis Potosí (city) is being planned and will supply the American market from mid-2020. The group employs around 1,900 people, 1,450 of them in Germany. The group turnover in 2018 was almost 180 million euros.
Commitment and sponsorship
The company BIA supports projects of the association for one another - chances in Solingen eV for educationally disadvantaged children and young people in Solingen. BIA is also one of the main sponsors of the Bergisches Handball Club (BHC).
