Pedersen, who started for the Oddersjaa ski, had her first international success at the Junior World Ski Championships in 1983 in Kuopio . There she won the silver medal with the relay. She ran her first of 26 individual World Cup races in February 1986 in Oberstdorf , which she finished in ninth place. In March 1986 she won in Lahti with the relay.
