Soma is the fourth studio album by the German psychedelic rock band My Sleeping Karma . It was released on September 28, 2012 via Napalm Records .

Emergence

The musicians began composing new songs as early as March 2011 and aimed to publish them in the fall of that year. In November 2011 the band signed a contract with the Austrian record label Napalm Records. At the beginning of 2012, the musicians continued to work on the new album, which was recorded in March 2012. The recordings took place in the band's own Mjusix studio. Produced and mixed was Soma by the drummer Steffen. The mastering was done by Andreas Balaskas.

For the album cover , the musicians no longer wanted a picture of a Buddha like on the previous albums. One of the band members read about the drink Soma , a drink made by the Hindu gods. The titles of the seven songs each describe one of the presumed ingredients for the Soma. For the first time in the band's history, the background color of the album cover is black instead of white. Although the album cover also exists on a white background, the musicians said that the details would be more visible on the black background.

For Matthias Mineur from the German magazine Metal Hammer , Soma takes his listener "on a journey through time and space where you don't want to get off at any stop". He awarded six out of seven points. Bernhard Schubert from the Austrian online magazine Stormbringer, on the other hand, described Soma as “one of those records that you always pull out when everything else is too fast, too noisy or too mentally: a piece of music to switch off”, “for everyday use but not unconditionally recommend is ". Schubert gave the album 3.5 out of five points.
