Somatochlora whitehousei is an emerald dragonfly species from the family of the falcon dragonflies (Corduliidae), which belong to the large dragonflies (Anisoptera). She lives in Canada .
features
The imago of Somatochlora whitehousei measures 46-48 mm, of which 33 to 38 millimeters on the abdomen ( abdominal ) omitted, which is an average of up small within the genus. The short abdomen is constricted on the third segment and then widens to the seventh segment and then tapers again. There is also a bright apical ring on the second segment. The short and broad genital lobe of the males is very hairy.
The part of the chest thorax to which the wings attach, the so-called pterothorax, is dark olive-colored in the anterior area and partly shimmers bluish on the sides. The light stripes on the pterothorax are wide and short. The legs are black. The hind wings measure 26 to 30 millimeters. The wings are transparent and have a brown spot in the anal area in the hind wing of the males.
In the metallic green face only the anteclypeus is yellowish.
Spread and time of flight
The species is common in Canada . It flies between June and August.
