The equestrian competitions were divided into the following four levels of disability:
- Grade 1: Mainly wheelchair users with poor body balance and / or impairment of both arms and legs, or without body balance and good arm functionality, or moderate body balance and significant damage to both arms and legs.
- Grade 2: Mainly wheelchair users, but also severely physically handicapped people with limited trunk control and good to moderate arm control or one-sided damage.
- Grade 3: Able to walk without assistance, wheelchairs may be required for longer distances. Minor unilateral disability, or minor disability of both arms and legs, or significant impairment of arm functionality. Total blindness or mental retardation.
- Grade 4: Disability in one or two extremities, or visual impairment.
competition
Men and women present their horses in joint competitions .
For each degree of disability there are individual competitions in dressage , once a compulsory (championship task) and once the separately rated music freestyle. There is also the team competition, in which four riders can compete. If there are four riders, one of them is responsible for the deletion.
German team
As the high favorite, Hannelore Brenner had to forego a start in duty, as her mare Fabiola had to be withdrawn from the competition due to an inflammation of the dermis . She did the freestyle on Roquefort , the horse of her teammate Bianca Vogel . Although she hardly had time to adjust to the animal, she achieved second place with it. The team also came in second.
