content

The story of 18-year-old Marga Lürmann is told. In the summer of 1893 she was sent by her parents to Lesmona on the estate of her uncle, Senator Herbert Lürmann. There she meets the young Englishman Percy Roesner, a distant cousin. They both fall in love and spend time together. When Percy is asked by Uncle Herbert to return to England, her cousin asks her to wait five years for his return, since in the meantime he will have accumulated enough fortune for a future together. However, contrary to her feelings, Marga marries the art historian Retberg and thus meets the expectations of her parents.

Others

The television play is based on the letters from Magdalene Pauli , which she wrote to her cousin Bertha Elking between 1893 and 1896. Under the pseudonym Marga Berck , the correspondence first appeared in the form of a letter novel in 1951.

For leading actress Katja Riemann it was the first major television role, for Peter Beauvais it was the last directorial work. He died in December 1986 and could no longer witness the broadcast.

The shooting took place in Bremen and the surrounding area, as well as in Italy and England. There were two scripts for the production, one for the series and another for a full-length television play. After a series scene, another, partly changed scene was filmed for the 90-minute version.

In 1988, Peter Beauvais (posthumously), Reinhard Baumgart, Katja Riemann and Herbert Grönemeyer were awarded the Gold Adolf Grimme Prize for summer in Lesmona . According to the television dictionary, the jury praised "the atmospherically dense, human touching, psychologically differentiated image of the Bremen bourgeoisie at the turn of the century" .

In the series "Big Stories", ARD has released summer in Lesmona on DVD.
