The summer cliffs are a rock formation in the Harz in Saxony-Anhalt and belong to the Harz cliffs .

location

They are located in the district of the village of Stecklenberg , which belongs to Thale, and rise on the north side of the Wurmbach valley on the left bank of the Wurmbach , which forms the Wurmbach cascades nearby . On the opposite side of the valley are the winter cliffs . At the foot of the cliffs, right on the edge of the forest path that runs there, there is a Dennert fir tree that provides information on the details of the summer cliffs .

history

At the beginning of the 20th century, an extensive quarry was set up on the cliffs . The broken stones were used as curbs , paving stones , grave borders and memorial stones . The resulting quarry stones were used in the bases and foundations of houses. Boulders in the area around the summer cliffs were also split up and processed. Work was stopped in the late 1950s. In 1981 it was placed under protection. The summer cliffs are designated as area natural monuments under the number FND0055QLB.
