List of apple varieties

Somerregent is a cultivar of the cultivated apple ( Malus domestica ). The summer apple was crossed from Anton Fischer and James Grieve .

description

The small to medium-sized apple has a golden yellow base color. On the sunny side it is flamed to flat red. A red mutant is also commercially available. The shell is smooth and firm. Its flesh is juicy and firm. It tastes sweet and sour and has no distinctive aroma of its own compared to other apple varieties.

Cultivation

The tree grows weakly and needs a comparatively strong base . The tree is only slightly branched and tends to get old with age. Summer rain prefers humus-rich and nutrient-rich soils that are only moderately moist. In Germany it only grows well in the best apple locations.

In the 1990s, Sommerregent was recommended for cultivation in Germany, and is intended to replace James Grieve, especially in local cultivation and on local markets. The tree bears early and is productive. He also shows no significant alternation . It is generally well resistant to disease, but prone to scab , powdery mildew and fruit tree cancer .

The apple is ripe for picking in July to August, a few days before the parent variety James Grieve. The apples ripen unevenly, so that several picking passes are required in commercial cultivation. As with all summer apples, the fruits only have a short shelf life.

history

The apple was grown in 1950 at the J. Fischer tree nursery in Mülheim-Kärlich . The breeders crossed the climate-proof summer apple James Grieve with Fischer's own selection, Anton Fischer. Today it is one of the common early apples in commercial cultivation in southern Germany, along with Summerred , Arkcharm and Delbarestivale .
