The Somnambule is a media and art festival that is intended to commemorate the heyday of silent films in Berlin-Weißensee . It took place for the first time in September 2010. The festival is named after the somnambule, a character in the cult film Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari . A somnambulist or somnambulist is someone who suffers from somnambulism (= sleepwalking).

Venues

The venues are the former silent film cinema Delphi as well as the stage, the gallery and the cinema of the art and culture center Brotfabrik Berlin .

First somnambule 2010

The legendary key work, the silent film made by Robert Wiene in 1919 and shot in Weißensee, Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari was the starting point for an examination of aesthetic, social and political backgrounds. Participating artists included Thierry Zaboitzeff (Ex- " Art Zoyd "), Conny Bauer , Sigune von Osten and John Bock . Not only film screenings could be seen, but also silent film concerts, performances, theatrical productions, discussions and gallery contributions. The festival was financed by means of the Hauptstadtkulturfonds , the Kulturamt Pankow, the DEFA-Stiftung and the British Council Berlin.
