Sona Saho

Sona Saho (often Sohna Saho , incorrectly Sokhna Saho ) is a Gambian athlete .

Life

Saho is a policewoman with the Gambia Police Force and mostly runs long distances . Her first competition took place in 2009.

With a time of 4: 45.3 min over 1500 m , she set a Gambian national record at the West Africa Championship in May 2017 .

In April 2017 she was nominated for Athlete of the Year by the Sports Journalist Association of the Gambia (SJAG).

Thanks to financial support from the Ministry of Sports, she was able to travel to Germany with her trainer Momodou Lamin Opa Keita in October 2018 and take part in the Frankfurt Marathon . She finished the marathon with a time of 3:26 hours as the 278th participant.

  • April 19, 2014: Bajana Marathon (Gambia): 2nd place over 10 km.
  • October 15, 2014: July 22nd Marathon (Gambia): 3rd place over 15 km.
  • April 4, 2015: Bajana Marathon (Gambia): 1st place over 10 km.
  • 7th / 8th August 2015: Sub-Regional Athletics Championship ( M'bour , Senegal): Silver medal over 1500 m.
  • January 23, 2016: Brufut Run (Gambia): 1st place over 10 km.
  • March 19, 2016: Kafuta Marathon (Gambia): 1st place over 5 km.
  • May 12, 2017: West Africa Championship ( Conakry , Guinea): 3rd place over 800 m; 2nd place over 1500 m.
  • March 31, 2018: Bajana Marathon (Gambia): 1st place over 42 km.
  • April 29, 2018: Gunjur Kulukochi Anti-Malaria Marathon (Gambia): 1st place over 10 km.
  • October 28, 2018: Frankfurt Marathon (Germany): 278th place over 42 km; Time: 3:28 h.
