Sonja Knöpfli (born July 11, 1977 ) is a Swiss long-distance runner who specializes in ultramarathons .

Career

Initially a track runner , she became Swiss champion in 1999 in the 5000 meter run and in 2000 in the half marathon . After winning the Winterthur Marathon in 2002 , she turned to longer distances and came third in the K78 of the Swiss Alpine Marathon in 2002 and 2004.

In 2005, 2006 and 2008 she won the 100 km in Biel . Her time in 2006 (7:51:35 h) is the first of a woman runner over this distance officially recognized as a record by the Swiss Athletics Federation . In 2007 she won the Rennsteig run on the super marathon route.

The athlete lives in Winterthur , works as a kindergarten teacher in Kloten and starts for the LV Winterthur .
