Sonny Emory
Sonny Emory (born December 23, 1962 ) is an American fusion jazz drummer , who is also an honorary professor at Georgia State University for applied percussion instruments .
Live and act
Emory was given his first drum kit at the age of four . With his father ( saxophone ) and his grandfather ( keyboard ) he recorded the first pieces at home. In high school and college he played in a variety of orchestras and bands . In 1986 he moved to Los Angeles . He got his first professional engagement with Joe Sample and the Crusaders . Shortly thereafter, Maurice White discovered him for Earth, Wind and Fire , where he played drums from 1987 to 1999. He is also a member of Bruce Hornsbys Noisemakers .
In addition to his work on drums, Emory is also a composer . He worked with Eric Clapton and David Sanborn on the soundtrack for Brennpunkt LA. As a studio musician, he has worked on albums by Stanley Clarke , David Sanborn, Bette Midler , Al Jarreau , Paula Abdul , Jean-Luc Ponty , Jeff Lorber , Lee Ritenour , and Boz Scaggs cooperated.
