Sonny Gray
Sonny Gray (* 1925 ; † 1987 ) was a Jamaican jazz trumpeter .
Gray played with Sonny Bradshaw , Wilton Gaynair and Joe Harriott in the Jamaica All-Stars in the late 1940s. After moving to Europe, he worked in the Paris jazz scene from the early 1960s a. a. with Henri Renaud , Bobby Jaspar , Jacques B. Hess , Georges Arvanitas and Dexter Gordon . In 1968 he recorded with Guy Lafitte ; In 1969 he worked with the NDR Big Band and performed at the Lugano Jazz Festival. In later years he worked with his own formations, a. a. with Michael Baird, Gérard Guerin, Dominique Lemerle, André Wentzo and Herve Sellin. Gray presented an album ( En Directo ) under his own name on the Italian label Clan Celentano.
