features

The only two known specimens of Sonorolux fluminis were both about eight centimeters long. The body is rounded with a steeply rounded snout. The scales on the head and front body are cycloid and smooth, those on the rest of the body are ctenoid and rough. The lateral line organ extends to the caudal fin. There are some yellowish, shiny spots under the ventral scales. The mouth is large with drooping angles and the lower jaw protruding forward. Both jaws have two rows of teeth, of which the outer ones are larger in the upper jaw and the inner ones in the lower jaw. The larger teeth are far apart in both jaws. The chin has no barbels , but shows a front and 2 or three pairs of lateral pores. The thorns of the gill trap are long and slender and count 16 or 17 on the lower arm of the first arch. The dorsal fin has ten or eleven hard and 28 or 19 soft rays, which are not separated from one another by a notch. The anal fin has two hard rays, the second of which is of medium length, and seven or eight soft rays. The caudal fin is rhomboid.

The swim bladder is carrot-shaped with about 20 pairs of complex appendages.
