Sopiko Tschiaureli

Sopiko Tschiaureli ( Georgian სოფიკო ჭიაურელი; * May 21, 1937 in Tbilisi ; † March 2, 2008 ibid) was a Georgian actress .

Life

Sopiko Tschiaureli was the daughter of the director Micheil Tschiaureli and the actress Weriko Andschaparidze and studied from 1955 to 1960 at the Moscow Film School WGIK . She then found employment at Moscow's Yermoljew Theater and then at the Marjanishvili Theater in Tbilisi. She made her film debut in 1957 during her studies with the lead role in Rewas Tschcheidses film Always when it gets day (Russian Nasch dwor ). She became one of the busiest actresses in the Georgian SSR . At the Allunionsfilmfestival in Kiev she was honored as best actress in 1966 for her role in Schotar Managadse's The Law of Fathers ( Tschewsurskaja ballada ), also in 1972 for The Warmth of Your Hands ( Teplo twoich ruk ) by the same director.

Since the 1960s she has worked regularly with the director Sergei Parajanov . In 1976 she played in Tengis Abuladse's Tree of Wishes ( Drewo schelanija ). Her portrayal of Sopiko in Some Interviews on Personal Questions ( Neskolko interwju po litschnym woprossam ) by Lana Gogoberidze earned her the State Prize of the USSR in 1979. In 1980 she played Ali Baba and Ali Baba's mother in the Soviet-Indian coproduction .

In 1965 she was named best actress at the Locarno International Film Festival . In 1976 she was honored as "People's Artist of Georgia" and in 1979 as "People's Artist of Armenia". In 1966, 1972 and 1974 she received the award for best actress at the Allunionsfilmfestival . In 1980 she was awarded the State Prize of the USSR .
