The Sopp'sche Pavillon (mostly just a pavilion ) is a former automobile salon and workshop from the 1950s in Wuppertal - Elberfeld , which has been a listed building since 1998 .

history

The former gas station was built in 1954 by the property owners and builders Adam Kals and Wilhelm Sopp on the then newly built main street Bundesallee and is located in the immediate vicinity of the Schauspielhaus , which was built between 1964 and 1966.

Until the late 1980s, a sales room for the building was Motorcycles of the brands BMW and Kawasaki .

In 1991, Ilse Sopp's building (hence the name “Sopp'scher Pavillon”, which is still common in Wuppertal today) was acquired by the city. On 22 December 1998, the building was in the monument list entered the city of Wuppertal.

From November 2000, the tenant, who had received a ten-year contract, used the building as a discotheque and music café / bistro ; in the summer months, outdoor management in a beer garden was also offered.

In August 2012, the closure of the discotheque was announced after eleven years. The reasons for the end of operations included the expiring lease agreement with the city of Wuppertal and the changed GEMA fee schedule, which was to apply from January 1, 2013. With the arrival of managing director Sascha Richter in August 2012, operations were ultimately maintained and the club was continued under the name "Diskothek B7" from October 2012. The future of the “ Glaspalast Pavillon ” bistro , which was last operated by a sub-tenant, was still uncertain.

At the beginning of 2013 the metal bar UNDERGROUND moved from the Südstadt to the bistro and since then has been running its "metal bar and more" there, including a beer garden, live concerts, poetry slam , readings, exhibitions, vegan buffets and a few other events. Two years later, UNDERGROUND took over the rest of the building in 2015 and now uses the former discotheque as an event floor for special events such as larger concerts and to offer more space for the increasing number of guests at poetry slams and vegan buffets.

architecture

The one- and two-storey building consisted of the large car workshop and the one-storey, large-scale, glazed sales kiosk protruding on the western side. To the east, the building was expanded in 1956 to include a car maintenance station with a petrol station.
