Víctor Manuel Fernández Gutiérrez , short Víctor (born April 17, 1974 in Mérida ) is a former Spanish football player and today's coach .

Player career

The beginnings

Víctor started his career as a footballer at Real Madrid Castilla , for which he scored a total of seven goals in 27 games from 1992 to 1994. Then he was brought in by the Spanish first division club CD Tenerife , where he initially had a difficult time. In the first year and a half, he only made 16 appearances in which he scored two goals. For this reason he was given to the second division CD Toledo for the second half of the 1995/1996 season . There he made the breakthrough with ten goals in 20 games.

Real Valladolid / Villarreal

In the summer of 1996 Víctor Fernández Gutiérrez moved to the first division Real Valladolid for whom he was able to achieve 16 goals in 42 games in the first season. In the following two years he scored five and four goals and was able to build on his old achievements in the 1999/2000 season with another 13 goals this season. In the summer of 2000 Víctor moved despite the successful time with Valladolid to first division promoted Villarreal FC , who was able to qualify for the first time for the Primera División. In his first two years with the Eastern Spaniards, he again scored 14 goals. With the growing demands in Villarreal, Víctor dismantled despite a regular place. Eight goals this season in 2002/2003 were followed by just three goals in 2003/2004.

Return to Valladolid

In the 2004/2005 season, Víctor returned to his ex-club Real Valladolid , which had meanwhile been relegated to the Segunda División . There he gradually found his strength back. With eight and eleven goals in the first two years after his return, however, he has not yet been able to move anything decisive. In the 2006/2007 season, Víctor had 19 goals this season significantly in the promotion of his club to the Primera División. In the 2007/2008 season, too, Víctor was able to convince with nine goals in 33 appearances. In the 2008/09 season he only scored five goals this season and secured himself with his team again to stay in the class.

End of career

In the summer of 2009 Víctor left Valladolid and moved to FC Cartagena , who had just been promoted to the Segunda División. As a regular player in the storm, he contributed nine hits to reach fifth place. In the 2010/11 season he attracted attention with twelve hits. His club ended the season in safe midfield. Víctor went to CD Leganés in the Segunda División B in summer 2011 . There he ended his active career a year later.

Coaching career

At the end of his active career, Víctor took over the coaching position at his club CD Leganés in April 2012 . In the remaining four games of the season, he secured himself with his team to stay in the class. At the beginning of the 2012/13 season he was replaced by Pablo Alfaro . At the beginning of the season 2015/16 he became head coach of FC Cartagena in Segunda División B . At the beginning of February 2016 he was released and replaced by Alberto Monteagudo .
