geography

The municipality borders the urban area of Toulouse and is about eight kilometers south of the city center. In the west the area is bounded by the Garonne . The village center and most of the area are about 100 m above the Garonnetal on a ridge interspersed with several transverse valleys.

history

The place has been since the 8th, maybe since the 13th century BC. Settled, probably by Iberians . End of the 3rd century BC BC Volcae - Tectosages immigrated to the area between the Mediterranean , Garonne and Pyrenees and elevated this place to their capital, Tolosa Tectosagum . A town of 90 to 100 hectares in size and probably 5000 inhabitants developed, with numerous handicrafts, two temples and important long-distance trade, especially for the import of wine from Italy. The city came from the end of the 2nd century BC. Under Roman rule and became an emporium , a place where goods and coins from almost all of Europe were traded. Around the year 8 BC The city was abandoned in favor of the newly founded Roman settlement on the site of today's Toulouse city center.

There was probably a manor on the site of the submerged settlement in the early Middle Ages. To the east of it, today's village developed, first mentioned in 1276 as Veterem Tolosam . Until the middle of the 20th century, Vieille-Toulouse was dominated exclusively by agriculture.

During the Second World War from 1943 to 1944 there was a German flak position on a hill in the community.

In 1950 the Toulouse golf course was laid out on the site of the ancient settlement.
