Azas ( Occitan : Asàs ) is a French commune with 664 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Garonne department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). Azas belongs to the arrondissement of Toulouse and until 2015 to the canton of Montastruc-la-Conseillère , since then to the canton Pechbonnieu . The inhabitants are called Azassia .
geography
Azas is located about 20 kilometers north-northeast of Toulouse . Azas is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Sulpice-la-Pointe in the north, Lugan in the east, Garrigues in the south and south-east, Montpitol in the south-west and Roquesérière in the west.
history
In the 13th century the place belonged to the county of Toulouse . Simon IV. De Montfort had a castle built in Azas, where the inhabitants could retreat during the Albigensian Crusade . The castle was built during the revolution and the church in the fortified area was demolished long before that.
Over the centuries until the Revolution in 1789 belonged Azas different families, the basic rule exercised.
