Pibrac Castle

Pibrac is a French commune with 8,459 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Garonne department in the Occitania region in southwestern France . It belongs to the arrondissement of Toulouse and is part of the canton of Toulouse-7 .

geography

Pibrac is located in the greater Toulouse area , about fifteen kilometers west of the city. The Aussonnelle and its tributary Courbet flow through the municipality . Pibrac is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Montaigut-sur-Save and Mondonville in the north, Cornebarrieu in the northeast, Colomiers in the east, Plaisance-du-Touch in the southeast, Léguevin in the south, Brax in the southwest, Lasserre-Pradère in the west and Lévignac in the northwest.

history

At the beginning of the 12th century there was a castle on the site of the current village . The first surviving lord of the castle was Pierre de Pibrac. Guy Du Faur de Pibrac (Count of Pibrac, 1529–1584) and Germaine Cousin , who became Saint Germaine after her canonization, come from Pibrac . The basilica , which was built in her honor in the Byzantine-Romanesque style, was completed in 1900/1901.

  • Basilica Sainte-Germaine, pilgrimage church for Saint Germaine (Germain cousin 1579–1601) from the early 20th century.
  • Sainte-Marie-Madeleine Church, brick church originally from the 13th century. Only the bell tower remains from this time. The nave dates from the 16th century and the annex, in which the pilgrims' office for the pilgrimage to "Saint Germaine" is located today, dates from the 19th century.
