Location of the association of municipalities in the Occitania region

The Toulouse Métropole is a French association of municipalities with the legal form of a Métropole in the Haute-Garonne department in the Occitania region . It was founded on December 24, 2008 and comprises 37 parishes. The administrative headquarters are in the city of Toulouse .

Historical development

In 2001 the Communauté d'agglomération du Grand Toulouse was founded with 21 member municipalities. The four municipalities of Fonbonzard, Gagnac-sur-Garonne, Launaguet and Pin-Balma joined this association in 2003. The transformation into today's Communauté urbaine took place in January 2009. On January 1, 2011, the twelve municipalities of Aigrefeuille, Beaupuy, Bruguières, Drémil-Lafage, Flourens, Gratentour, Lespinasse, Mondouzil, Mons, Montrabé, Saint-Jean and Saint- Jory added. With effect from January 1, 2015, the association of municipalities was raised to the legal form of a metropolis and adopted the current name.
