history
In the district of Cayras , isolated Roman ceramic shards were discovered. The name of the community goes back to the bishop Orientius von Auch , who was probably born in Huesca (Osca) and later venerated as saint , who worked a divine miracle in the battle against Roman troops under the general Aëtius near Toulouse in 438 , but was finally captured and presumably died a martyr's death the following year . A church was built in his honor at the site of the battle. The community itself was only formed in 1790 from the villages of Cayras , Gameville and Lantourville .
Attractions
- The Saint-Orens church, made entirely of brick , dates from around 1500; it is in the former cemetery. The simple Gothic building has a bell gable (clocher mur) , a south portal and an apse with a dome .
- A wrought-iron cross from 1578 stands on a plinth consisting of large stone blocks stacked on top of each other in the central square (today the roundabout) of the town; it has been registered as a Monument historique since 1965 . (see also city arms)
- The 17th century Château Catala is also made entirely of bricks; it now serves as a cultural center.
- A water mill (Moulin de Quint) is located on the river Sausse about one kilometer north of the village. It probably dates from the 17th century.
- At the beginning of the 21st century a Protestant church (temple) was built.
