Baziège |
Baziège ( Occitan : Basièja ) is a French commune with 3346 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Garonne department in the Occitania region (previously Midi-Pyrénées ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Toulouse and the canton of Escalquens (previously Montgiscard ). The inhabitants are called Baziégeois (es) .
geography
Baziège is located about 24 kilometers southeast of Toulouse in the Lauragais countryside . The Hers-Mort River crosses the municipality and the Canal du Midi forms the western municipal boundary. Baziège is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Fourquevaux in the north, Labastide-Beauvoir in the northeast, Mauremont in the east, Villenouvelle in the southeast, Montesquieu-Lauragais in the south, Ayguesvives in the southwest, Montgiscard in the west and Montlaur in the northwest.
The Via Tolosana , a variant of the Camino de Santiago, and the former Route nationale 113 (today's D813) lead through the village . The municipality's train station is on the Bordeaux – Sète railway line .

In 1219 there was a battle here during the crusade against the Albigensians, which ended with a defeat for the crusaders.
