The Hers-Mort (also simply called Hers ) is a river in France that runs in the Occitanie region . It rises in the Lauragais countryside , in the municipality of Laurac, and generally drains in a north-westerly direction. At Villefranche-de-Lauragais , it crosses under the Autoroute des Deux Mers and the Canal du Midi , follows them in a largely straightened course and arches through the suburbs east and north of Toulouse . After 90 kilometers, the river flows into the Garonne as a right tributary at Grenade , after crossing under the motorway again and the Canal latéral à la Garonne . On its way, the Hers-Mort crosses the Aude and Haute-Garonne departments .
