La Magdelaine-sur-Tarn is located about 20 kilometers north-northeast of Toulouse on the Tarn river , which borders the municipality to the north and northeast. La Magdelaine-sur-Tarn is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Bondigoux in the north, Layrac-sur-Tarn in the north and northeast, Mirepoix-sur-Tarn in the east, Bessières in the east and southeast, Montjoire in the south, Vacquiers in the southwest and Villematier in the west and northwest.
