It belongs to the arrondissement of Toulouse and the canton of Léguevin ( Cadours until 2015 ). The inhabitants are called Bellegardiens .

Bellegarde-Sainte-Marie is located about 31 kilometers northwest of Toulouse in southern France. Bellegarde-Sainte-Marie is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Vignaux in the north and north-west, Garac in the north, Thil in the north-east, La Castèra in the east, Sainte-Livrade in the south and south-east, L'Isle-Jourdain in the south, Monbrun in the west and Encausse in the north-west.
