Trappist Abbey Désert

The Trappist Abbey of Sainte-Marie-du-Désert (Latin Abbatia Sanctae Mariae de Deserto ) is a French monastery in Bellegarde-Sainte-Marie near Lévignac , Haute-Garonne department , Archdiocese of Toulouse .

history

Aiguebelle Monastery founded the Sainte-Marie-du-Désert ("Maria Einsiedeln") monastery in 1852 northwest of Toulouse near Lévignac , which was elevated to a priory in 1855 and an abbey in 1861 . Abbot André Malet and Blessed Marie-Joseph Cassant were among the monks' important monks .

In 2020 the monks announced that they could no longer hold the place and wanted to leave it in September.
