Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz is a Mexican historical film from 1935. It was directed by Ramón Peón , who also wrote and edited the script. The film tells the story of Juana de Asbaje, who lived in 17th century Mexico. She is a talented and intelligent woman who seeks further education. That's why she moves to the capital, where she studies at the university. Juana de Asbaje draws the attention of the womanizer Lisardo and that of her tutor Feliciano. The former wants to seduce her and then kidnap her. Feliciano wants to prevent this and challenges Lisardo to a duel, in which he is killed. Then Lisardo leaves the country. After this incident, the archbishop spoke to Juana and convinced her that her only option would be tojointhe convent . She becomes Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz and spends the rest of her life writing literary works.
The film was produced by the La Mexicana company. Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz has also performed in the United States. The pre-monastic life of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz was also dealt with in the largely fictional film El secreto de la monja in 1939 .
