The Sordariaceae are a family of fungi from the order of the Sordariales .
features
The family representatives form thick-walled, often leathery, dark perithecia as fruiting bodies . An ostiolum , an opening at the top, is often present and is provided with hair-like structures, the periphyses . The interascular tissue that is not always present, i.e. H. in which the tubes are embedded, consists of thin-walled, inconspicuous and small paraphyses . The tubes themselves are long cylindrical, quite thin-walled, rarely very small and often equipped with a small J-shaped apical ring. The brown ascospores are unseptate or only very rarely septate, sometimes also ornamented in a reticulate, furrowed or grooved manner. They are often embedded in a gelatinous shell, but never have an elongated appendage. There is no stroma . The secondary crop forms occur mainly in heterothallic species. She is this hyphomycetically trained. The conidia are formed either from rapidly growing fragmenting hyphae or from rod-shaped spermatia that arise from cylindrical or bottle-shaped conidiogenic cells.
Ecology and diffusion
The Sordariaceae are very common.
meaning
Some types of Neurospora are very heat resistant and can be harmful in food processing and laboratories. They also serve as model organisms in genetics . Several Neurospora TYPES are also used for fermentation of Oncom , a traditional, the tempeh -like dish of Indonesian cuisine.
Taxonomy
The Sordariaceae were first described by Heinrich Georg Winter in 1885. There are nine genera. There is evidence that the family is polyphyletic , but it is not yet fully understood.
