Sot Nekrasov

Sot Ilyich Nekrasov ( Ukrainian Зот Ілліч Некрасов , Russian Зот Ильич Некрасов * December 26, 1907 . Jul / 8. January  1908 greg. In Melitopol (now Zaporizhia Oblast , Ukraine); † 1. December 1990 in Dnipropetrovsk ) was a Ukrainian- Soviet metallurgist and expert in the field of iron and steel.

Life

Sot Nekrasov was born into a Russian working class family. In 1930 graduated from the Metallurgical Institute in Dnipropetrovsk (now the National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine - NMetAU). He then worked at Dnipropetrovsky NII in the metals division. His scientific work relates to the blast furnace theory . With the beginning of the Great Patriotic War , the department was evacuated to Magnitogorsk .

After the Second World War, Zot Nekrasov devoted himself to developing the Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy in Dnipropetrovsk. In 1950 he defended his doctoral thesis. From 1952 he was director of the institute for 24 years until 1976. He developed new methods for smelting iron ores.

Nekrasov's scientific work received wide international recognition. For many years he was chairman of the iron and steel committee of the Economic Commission for Europe in Geneva . He has also served on a number of committees and scientific councils for the iron and steel industry.

He lived and worked in Dnepropetrovsk, where he died on December 1, 1990.

Honors

Nekrasov received the State Prize of the USSR in 1941 and the Lenin Prize in 1960 . In 1961 he became an academic member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian Soviet Union . In 1968 he was honored as an Honored Scientist of the Ukrainian SSR and in 1969 as a Hero of Socialist Labor .
