Sothis is the second studio album by the Polish metal band Vader . It was released in Poland in March 1994 via Baron Records . The album was released in Europe, Canada and the USA via Repulse Records . In Japan the songs were used as bonus tracks for the albums De Profundis and The Darkest Age: Live '93 .

The record contains two songs with Sothis and Vision and the Voice , which were reissued a year later for the album De Profundis .

With Black Sabbath there was also a cover by the band of the same name , which was used again in the same version for the cover album Future of the Past .

The Wrath is another re-recording of a demo track. It was released in 1989 on the Necrolust demo and is based on the Polish song Gniew Szatana from the first demo Live in Decay .

Hymn to the Ancient Ones , De Profundis and R'Lyeh , based on the Cthulhu myth, are short intros that can only be found on this album.

It was the first release in which Jarosław "China" Łabieniec was involved as the second guitarist and in which Leszek "Shambo" was performed as the new bassist (the bass itself was recorded by Wiwczarek).

style

Compared to its predecessor, the Thrash Metal parts have been screwed back and at only 23 minutes, Sothis is also significantly shorter than The Ultimate Incantation . Sothis and Vision and the Voice last between three and four minutes, while the intros are all shorter than two minutes and only The Wrath and Black Sabbath exceed the five-minute mark.

The importance of this album can be seen in the fact that some of the songs on the record were played live exclusively as part of the 2013 “Back to the Black” tour in combination with songs by Black to the Blind , including Sothis , Vision and the Voice and The Wrath .

Republication

In 2012 a new edition in digipak was released on the label Witching Hour Productions. This had a new cover artwork by Zibigniew Bielak and also contained seven live tracks from 1994, including the oldest known live versions of Sothis and the Slayer cover Raining Blood , which can also be found on Live In Japan from 1998 . Four songs were already on the live album The Darkest Age: Live '93 . Another live version of The Wrath exists on the album Live Before The Ages of Chaos from 2015. Since not all four members were involved in the recordings in the studio, the entire cast of the album could be heard here for the first time.
