The Ultimate Incantation ( English for "The Ultimate Spell") is the debut album of the Polish death metal band Vader .
History of origin
After the successful demo Morbid Reich , Vader received a contract with the British music label Earache Records , which then released the band's first album. A video clip for the song Dark Age was produced. After the release of The Ultimate Incantation , Vader lost the contract with Earache Records again.
All tracks that appeared on the two demos Morbid Reich and Necrolust (1989) were re-recorded for this album, except for the songs "Reborn in Flames" and "The Wrath". "Decapitated Saints" was the first song in the band's history to be written in English. It was also the first piece for which Peter took over the lead vocals in 1988. The two demos were re-released on an album called Reborn in Chaos .
Vader toured Europe following the release, supporting Bolt Thrower and Grave . During the subsequent headliner tour through their home country Poland, the band recorded the live album The Darkest Age . Apart from several intros and a cover version of Hell Awaits ( Slayer ), the live album only contains songs from the debut album.
The cover artwork for the album comes from Dan Seagrave , who has already painted the covers of bands such as Morbid Angel , Dismember or Malevolent Creation .

The album was in Germany by the then established Metal magazines panned . In the meantime the album has developed into a classic of brutal Death Metal.
