Live in Decay ( English for "Living in decay") is the first demonstration -Publishing the Polish death metal band Vader , which was recorded in 1986 and today is their only recording that contains only songs in Polish. With the release of Future of the Past II - Hell in the East, it would be almost 30 years before another album by the band again contained more songs with Polish instead of English lyrics.

In 1988 the demo appeared for the first time in a small cassette edition, which, in addition to four of the seven originally recorded songs ( Gniew Szatana , Trupi Jad , Gin Psie , Tyrani Piekieł ), contained three of these songs as instrumental rehearsal room versions with English titles (under the name Satans Wrath , Deathlike Carrion and Tyrants of Hell ). After this cassette was quickly sold out and was considered lost for a long time, the demo was released again in 2015 on cassette and for the first time also on CD and record, on which the missing three songs ( Przeklęty Na Wieki , Abaddon and Necropolis ) were published.

History of origin

When the demo was recorded in front of an audience in the auditorium of today's Warmia-Masuria University in Olsztyn on December 12, 1986 , the band had existed for over three years. Co-founder and second guitarist Vika had left the band a few months earlier, so lead guitarist and band leader Behemoth alias Piotr Wiwczarek was the only remaining founding member of Vader. It was decided not to fill the vacant position and to continue with only one guitar - it was not until 1991 that a second guitarist, China, was hired again. Czarny was the third singer in the band after his two predecessors Robert Bielak and Piotr Tomaszewski left the band. Astaroth and Belial formed the first fixed rhythm section after bass and drums often changed in the first few years. It would be their only release with the band for these three members.

Music genre

Stylistically, the album still stands out very strongly from the later Vader releases, which is evident in the sound as well as in the vocals, which is more typical of Black Metal . You can hear the band saying they haven't found their ultimate style yet. The songs themselves also differed from one another. Trupi Jad , Gniew Szatana and Abaddon are most likely to dictate the style that the band adopted on the following demos and albums, while Gin Psie and Tyrani Piekieł are more typical of classic speed and heavy metal . Przeklęty Na Wieki is a half-ballad typical of Thrash Metal , which starts out calmly and increases steadily, but always remains melodic, while Necropolis moves towards hard rock .

Due to the rudimentary sound quality, Live in Decay is performed as a demo. While the first demo for many bands is representative of the song material on the debut album, in this case the songs were not representative of the band's later studio albums, but could rather be viewed as independent pieces by Live In Decay itself. In addition, with the exception of Tyrani Piekieł on the anniversary album XXV (consisting exclusively of new recordings), none of the songs in the original version with Polish text were used as a regular album track. Trupi Jad , Gniew Szatana and Abaddon were reused (in the appropriate order) for the first three studio albums The Ultimate Incantation , Sothis and De Profundis , after they were rearranged and used for the demos Necrolust and Morbid Reich under the names Reign Carrion , The Wrath and Reborn in Flames had been re-recorded in English versions. On the debut album, however , Reign Carrion was only used as a CD bonus track, while Sothis was more of a transitional album with a mixture of old and later De Profundis pieces. The remaining three songs were recorded together with Trupi Jad in the original version as bonus tracks only from 2005: Gin Psie for the Japanese version of The Art of War , Trupi Jad for the special edition of XXV and Necropolis , and Przeklęty Na Wieki for the Digipack or vinyl version by Tibi et Igni .
