The South Cascade Glacier is a large alpine glacier in the North Cascades in Washington state . It is bounded to the east by the 8,261 ft (2,518 m) high Sentinel Peak and lies about 17 mi (27 km) north of Glacier Peak in the Glacier Peak Wilderness . The meltwater from the glacier flows directly into South Cascade Lake, which feeds the South Fork Cascade River , a tributary of the Skagit River .

The South Cascade Glacier was examined in an intensive glaciological monitoring in order to determine the effects of the climate on glaciers. Between 1958 and 2009, the South Cascade Glacier lost nearly half of its volume.
