Soyoung Yoon (* 1984 in Seoul , South Korea ) is a South Korean violinist .

Life

Soyoung Yoon started playing the violin at the age of five. She attended Yewon Middle School of Art in Seoul and later an art high school . In 2002 she was accepted as a “particularly talented musician” at the National University of the Arts in Seoul, where she trained by Professor Nam-Yun Kim . At the University of Music and Dance Cologne , she attended the master class of Zakhar Bron and continued to study with Zakhar Bron at the Zurich University of the Arts . She attended other master classes with Shlomo Mintz and Ida Haendel .

Soyoung Yoon has already performed with the Moscow Virtuosi Orchestra , the London Mozart Players , the Zurich Chamber Orchestra , the Basque National Orchestra , the Philharmonic of Nations and the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne .

Soyoung Yoon was a member of the Stradivari Quartet ; there she played the Stradivarius violin "King George" from 1710.

Awards

Soyoung Yoon received several prizes, including the Yehudi Menuhin Competition (2002), the Georg Kulenkampff Competition (2003), the Tibor Varga Competition (2005), the David Oistrach Competition (2006) and the Tchaikovsky Competition (2007) and at the Concours Reine Elisabeth (2009). She is a silver medalist at the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis (2010) and won the gold medal at the 14th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition in 2011. In 2005 she had already been awarded the “Best New Artist” prize by the South Korean Music Association .

Discography

In 2012 Yoon's debut album 'Sibelius & Tchaikovsky - Violin Concertos' was released. The recording of these two popular works of violin literature was nominated for the International Classical Music Award (ICMA) 2013 in the 'Concerts' category.
