The establishment of the free church savings bank was initiated by Wilhelm Baresel from Stuttgart , who at that time also belonged to the federal executive committee of the German Baptist Union. In his letter of invitation to the founding meeting it says among other things:

“The plight of many congregations urges us to use our congregations 'savings to build meeting houses and preachers' apartments instead of, as is often the case, being put through the intermediary of savings banks and banks for purposes other than pure work of the Kingdom of God . In-depth consultations with knowledgeable brothers and other experts have shown that the establishment of a federal savings bank in the form of a cooperative is the appropriate way to achieve this goal. "

On December 30, 1927, the registration was made in the register of cooperatives at the Berlin-Mitte district court under number 1727 . The Savings Bank of the German Baptists was based in the then headquarters of the Free Church in Berlin-Südende .

In 2007, about 542,000 euros were generated as annual surplus, at the end of the year there were savings deposits of around 94.2 million euros, while the balance sheet total was estimated at 128 million euros.
