  • 1826 The government of Middle Franconia calls on the city magistrate of the city of Fürth, which has a population of 11,000, to immediately establish a “savings bank that is particularly important and useful for the numerous factory workers”.
  • 1827 Foundation of the “Sparkasse for the Royal Bavarian City of Fürth”, statutory limitation of savings to at least 15 kreuzers and a maximum of 100 guilders per person and year.
  • 1839 The attempt by the mayor of Langenzenn, Johann Jacob Haßler, to found a savings bank fails due to the requirements imposed by the authorities.
  • 1848 The Kingdom of Bavaria had to admit that it was unable to pay and was unable to repay monies raised by the savings banks. This triggers a crisis in the savings banks throughout Bavaria and the resentment of the population, one of the main causes of the revolution in Bavaria.
