The business area of Sparkasse Gronau included the city of Gronau (Westphalia) in the Borken district , which was also the sponsor of the Sparkasse.
history
The Sparkasse Gronau was founded on April 1st, 1885 as "Sparkasse des Amtes Gronau". In 1910 the name was changed to “Städtische Sparkasse” and later to “Stadtsparkasse Gronau”. The then independent municipality of Epe had its own municipal savings bank, which later merged with the district savings bank Ahaus. After the municipal reorganization in 1975, in the course of which the municipality of Epe was incorporated into the city of Gronau, the offices in Epe were transferred to the Stadtsparkasse Gronau. After the guarantor liability was discontinued, the name of the Sparkasse was finally changed to Sparkasse Gronau in 2004.
During its meeting on April 29, 2015, the City Council of Gronau (Westphalia) considered the further strategic development of Sparkasse Gronau. This also included the possibility of a merger with the Sparkassen Westmünsterland or Münsterland Ost . Finally, the decision was made to merge with Sparkasse Westmünsterland. On August 31, 2015, Sparkasse Gronau was incorporated into Sparkasse Westmünsterland with retroactive effect from January 1, 2015.
Since the merger, Sparkasse Westmünsterland has had one of its six main branches in the former main office building of Sparkasse Gronau.
