Bernhard Noeldechen

Bernhard Noeldechen (born August 8, 1848 in Hanover , † February 12, 1919 in Braunschweig ) was a German opera singer ( bass ) and chamber singer. He worked at the Braunschweig court theater from 1875 to 1915 .

Life

The son of a district court director in Langensalza studied medicine in Leipzig , Greifswald , Göttingen and Breslau . He took singing lessons while still a student and made his debut as Commendatore in Don Giovanni at the Breslau City Theater . He broke off his medical studies and continued his vocal training with Johann Baptist Pischek in Stuttgart and Francesco Lamperti in Milan. Noeldechen was engaged at the Ulm City Theater in 1869. He took part in the Franco-Prussian War in 1870/71 and after his return worked for a short time at the theater in Königsberg. From 1872 to 1874 he was the first bass player at the Lübeck City Theater before he took on an engagement in Stettin in 1874/75. There the Brunswick court conductor Franz Abt saw him , who brought him to the court theater there. There he made his debut on May 6, 1875 as "Bertram" in Robert the Devil . Noeldechen took part in operas by Meyerbeer, Gounod, Bizet, Smetana, Wagner, Beethoven and Mozart, with Mephisto in Gounod's Faust among his main roles. Guest performances have taken him to London, Karlsruhe, Munich, Berlin, Leipzig and Bremen. On May 10, 1915, Noeldechen celebrated 40 years at the Braunschweiger Hoftheater.
