The General Savings Bank Upper Austria Aktiengesellschaft (short Sparkasse Upper Austria ) is an Upper Austrian banking company based in Linz . In 1990 the banking operations were incorporated into a stock corporation. The largest shareholder in Sparkasse Oberösterreich is the share management company Allgemeine Sparkasse (57.28 percent). With 39.19 percent the Erste Bank of the Austrian Sparkassen AG is in the Upper Austria. Landessparkasse involved. Small shareholders are: ASK Privatstiftung (2.35 percent), the city of Schwanenstadt (1.04 percent) and the regional fund of Sparkasse Grieskirchen (0.14 percent).

From a financial institution to an AG

The bank was founded in 1849 as a savings association in Linz . The Sparkasse OÖ supported numerous infrastructure projects in the state capital, such as the construction of the new Danube bridge in 1868, the Petrinum or the commercial association and the state museum . The Sparkasse financially supports schools, social housing and elderly care in Upper Austria . In 2017, the Sparkasse financially supported the renovation of the Linz theater . In 1952, as part of a renovation, the largest ticket hall in Linz was built in the Sparkasse Upper Austria. In 1969, the bank managed 230,000 savings accounts, which meant that on average every person in Linz owned a savings account from the country's most popular regional bank .

From Sparkasse Linz to Sparkasse Upper Austria

With the new Banking and Savings Bank Act 1979, the savings banks were given the status of universal banks . In 1990 the Allgemeine Sparkasse became a stock corporation . Through mergers with other Upper Austrian savings banks, the branch network could be quadrupled within two years. Even before the turn of the millennium, Sparkasse Oberösterreich took over all 50 Upper Austria branches from Erste Bank , in return, Erste acquired around 26 percent of one of the largest federal savings banks . Further takeovers followed in 2013 with the former Sparkasse Kremstal-Pyhrn and the Erste Bank branches in western Mostviertel.

CSR projects of the Sparkasse Oberösterreich

Sparkasse Oberösterreich has been supporting social, cultural and sports in Upper Austria since it was founded. There are long-term partnerships with the Red Cross, Diakonie and the CliniClowns, among others. The Linz Klangwolke is one of the sponsored cultural events . In 2017 the Sparkasse supported the renovation of the Linz playhouse. In the sports sector, Sparkasse Oberösterreich supports the volleyball and soccer school league, youth development and around 70 running events.
