history

The establishment of a savings bank in Zwickau was decided by the municipal colleges in December 1841. According to this request, a pawnshop should be connected with the savings bank. This idea, which the then mayor Meyer vigorously opposed, was only parted with after government intervention. On January 27, 1845, Friedrich August, "by the grace of God King of Saxony" approved the establishment of the savings bank in Zwickau by decree. And so the opening of the Sparkasse was delayed until April 16, 1845. First, a small office was opened on the first floor of the town hall. It was open on Wednesdays from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
