Spear of Destiny is a computer game developed by id Software and is the sequel to Wolfenstein 3D . Spear of Destiny is also based on the scenario created by Castle Wolfenstein and Beyond Castle Wolfenstein and can therefore be rated as the fourth part of the Wolfenstein series.
Action and gameplay
Spear of Destiny is, like its predecessor Wolfenstein 3D , the experiences of US soldiers William "BJ" Blazkowicz. In this context it should in a new mission to the Nazis the Spear of Destiny snatch.
The design and control are not significantly different from Wolfenstein 3D. In contrast to Wolfenstein 3D, Spear of Destiny is not divided into different episodes and only contains 21 levels, whereby only 19 levels have to be played to complete the game. The opponents are almost identical to those of the game Wolfenstein 3D, only changes have been made and expanded on the end bosses. For example, trans-large as well as a so-called hypermutant appear.
Level
There are 21 game stages in Spear of Destiny , including two hidden ones. These can be thematically divided into four areas.
- Chapter 1: Tunnels
- Chapter 2: Dungeons
- Chapter 3: Castle
- Chapter 4: Ramparts (Fortification Walls)
At the end of each section, the player must defeat a final boss.
Distribution and extensions
Since Spear of Destiny is an independent sequel, unlike Wolfenstein 3D, no shareware version was released.
Like its extensions, the game was indexed as a result of the found content being identical to its predecessor and was accordingly also affected by indexing and confiscation. With the lifting of the seizure and the subsequent deletion of Wolfenstein 3D from the list, it was also removed from the index. Until a new examination is to be treated like media with "no youth approval" rating.
For Spear of Destiny, in addition to numerous fan modifications, two official mission packs under the names Return to Danger and Ultimate Challenge were released by FormGen Corporation in May 1994. These show no differences in gameplay, but contain different maps and textures . They represent further missions of the protagonist in a hostile environment. Both expansions have the same scope as Spear of Destiny.
