action
background
In an alternative world story , the Allies are on the verge of defeat by the National Socialist regime in World War II in 1946 . This has superior weapon technologies, the development of which is General Totenkopf. This is located on a secret base and must be switched off promptly in order to bring about the decisive turning point in the war.
First part
Captain William Joseph BJ Blazkowicz, along with Agent Wesley, infiltrates Wolfenstein Castle to gather information about the location of General Totenkopf's base. Helga von Schabbs, in turn a specialist in paranormal activities and closest confidante of General Totenkopf, has her headquarters in Wolfenstein Castle and may have a file with the necessary information. During the infiltration, however, Blazkowicz and Wesley are unmasked, with Wesley being brutally executed by Rudi Jäger, the leader of the dog squadron, during an interrogation. Blazkowicz escapes.
Second part
He finds out that Helga von Schabbs has commissioned various excavations in the vicinity of the nearby town of Wulfburg, with the aim of discovering the weapon created by King Otto with which the regime could win the war. In the course of the plot, Blazkowicz learns more details about the excavations and the secret super weapon and finally gets to Helga. She has already discovered the monster created by King Otto and tries to control it with some found artifacts, but she does not succeed. As a result, she is badly wounded by the monster and succumbs to her injuries after Blazkowicz kills the monster. So Blazkowicz can take the file.
Sales versions
As with the main game Wolfenstein: The New Order , The Old Blood has two retail versions. An unchanged international version, which like the main game in Germany cannot be activated via Steam, and a German-language version. However, this is only playable in German and does not have clear references to National Socialism, i.e. the characteristics of unconstitutional organizations that are punishable in Germany according to § 86a StGb , the party name and the names of the political leadership, while the representation of violence remained unchanged. In Switzerland, both versions are automatically available via Steam. Since November 2019, the uncensored international versions with Nazi symbols have also been distributed in Germany, but only in English.
As in The New Order , many of the dialogues are in German in the original. The story plays with the fact that Blazkowicz does not speak German, which makes him exposed several times as a spy. As "nightmares", the player can re-enact the original levels of Wolfenstein 3D with almost unchanged graphics.
