Spectaris - German Industry Association for Optics, Photonics, Analysis and Laboratory Technology eV is an industrial association based in Berlin , which represents the medium-sized high - tech industry in Germany .
SPECTARIS is a German industrial association of medium-sized companies with 400 members from the optics, photonics, analysis and medical technology industries, which aims to strengthen the competitiveness and innovative strength of the member companies. The association sees its functions as engaging in political participation to promote its members, organizing a permanent exchange between its members and offering a platform for dialogue with politics, other associations and important users and sales intermediaries. It also offers its members additional services such as access to market and industry data or information on approval issues.
Well-known members include Carl Zeiss , Jenoptik , Leica Microsystems , Rodenstock , Drägerwerk , Sartorius Lab Instruments, Karl Storz , Otto Bock and Eppendorf AG . However, the majority of the member companies are medium-sized manufacturers. The association sees the medium-sized structure, the innovation potential and the pronounced export orientation as the common framework of the member companies.

history
In 1881 the German Society for Mechanics and Optics was founded to “safeguard common interests” . The members met once a year for a general meeting, the German Mechanics Day. After the Second World War, the German Industry Association for Precision Mechanics and Optics (F + O) was founded in 1945. The association's activities initially concentrated on advising the member companies on the repair of damaged machines and buildings and the first export deals and on supporting administrative processes such as production permits and material allocations.
In 2002 it was renamed “SPECTARIS. German Industry Association for Optical, Medical and Mechatronic Technologies eV ". The German Society for Association Management (DGVM) named SPECTARIS "Association of the Year". In 2004 the office of the association was moved from Cologne to Berlin. In 2006 Spectaris celebrates its 125th anniversary. In 2010 the specialist group for analysis, biotechnology and laboratory technology will be the fourth SPECTARIS specialist association.
