The German Society for Association Management e. V. (DGVM) acts as a cross-sectional organization for full-time associations in Germany. It is based in Bonn . President is Peter Hahn .

Story and purpose

The DGVM was founded in August 1996 by the managing directors of various associations as an association for associations. The DGVM is a classic umbrella organization .

The purpose of the DGVM is to promote the representation of the importance of interest groups and professional associations in open societies at all levels. The DGVM sees itself as an association of executives in associations and other non-governmental organizations, insofar as they are active on a non-commercial basis.

The DGVM pursues the following goals in particular:

  1. Research into the role and functional change of associations in Germany and other countries;
  2. Improving the efficiency of associations and association management;
  3. Improvement of the legal and tax framework for associations;
  4. Public relations work for associations as indispensable institutions in the democratic reconciliation of interests and opinion-forming process;
  5. Dialogue with the relevant scientific disciplines (e.g. political, social, administrative and economic sciences) and suggestion or funding of research projects in associations;
  6. Transfer of information between associations and for associations with special consideration of modern management and public relations methods;
  7. Establish and maintain contacts with political institutions and comparable organizations abroad.

As a professional association, the DGVM represents the interests of managers in associations and other non-governmental interest groups .

Members

As of May 2016, the DGVM has over 330 associations. The membership structure includes all types of full-time associations such as professional associations , business associations , interest groups , social associations , welfare associations , sports associations , guilds and chambers . The DGVM member associations represent the interests of over two million members.

Information and training opportunities

The DGVM initiated various information and further training offers, which it is responsible for or which it takes on:

  • German Association Congress

The DGVM has been the ideal sponsor of the German Association Congress since 1997, in which the executives of full-time associations take part.

The association is a cooperation partner of the German Association Forum. The forum is the internet platform of the German associations.

  • Cologne associations seminars

The DGVM cooperates with the Cologne associations seminars in order to enable further training offers specially tailored to the needs of association managers.

  • Association report - the specialist information service for the managers of the associations

The association report is the official organ of the DGVM and the specialist information service for the managers of the associations.

  • DGVM Academy

The intensive course is dedicated to the training and further education of junior managers from associations.

  • DGVM Innovation Award: Association of the Year

The DGVM Innovation Award is given regularly to a full-time association for outstanding achievements in the areas of association management, interest representation and member marketing.

  • DGVM CERT

DGVM ZERT is a quality management and certification system especially for associations and organizations. It is based on the requirements of the international series of standards ISO 9001ff , which was further developed by QMS experts with special consideration of association requirements for the rules of the DGVM ZERT.
