The dining room or dining room is the room in an apartment or house that is mainly used for eating .

The dining room has a dining table , the earlier in palaces or castles panel was called. People meet at this table to eat together.

In the past, kings or great rulers had huge dining rooms with tables for hundreds of people. The king sat, usually elevated, at one end of the room so that he could overlook the invited people, his knights or his court .

Often there was also a separate, closed niche in which a head of the church (a bishop or another high personality of the church) could sit.
