The Spencer Glacier is a glacier in the US state of Alaska . It is located in the northeast of the Kenai Peninsula within the Chugach National Forest 75 km southeast of Anchorage .
geography
The 18 km long and in the lower area 1.4 km wide glacier flows mainly in a north-westerly direction. Its nutrient area extends between Isthmus Peak in the south and Carpathian Peak in the north and is at an altitude of 1200 m . To the east, the Spencer Glacier borders the Northland and Blackstone Glaciers , both of which flow northeast to Blackstone Bay .
The glacier tongue of the Spencer Glacier is in retreat. The glacial edge lake Spencer Lake is growing accordingly . The glacial rim lake is drained via the Placer River north to the Turnagain Arm . The Seward –Anchorage of the Alaska Railroad runs through the Placer River valley and past the tongue of the Spencer Glacier.
