Spencer Thomas Bassett (3rd quarter 1885 in Blackheath , † April 11, 1917 in France ) was an English football player.
Career
Bassett played for Maidstone United before joining Woolwich Arsenal in 1906 . In May 1907 he received a professional contract, but continued to play in the reserve team in the South Eastern League and won the championship there with the team in 1907/08. His only use in the Football League First Division he had as a right outside runner on the side of Roddy McEachrane and Matthew Thomson on October 7, 1909 in a 1: 5 loss to Notts County . In 1910 he left Arsenal and then played in the Southern League , initially for three years at Exeter City , where he played all 38 league games in the 1911/12 season. The 1913/14 season he played at Swansea Town , he had already played with the local player- coach Walter Whittaker at Exeter and was part of the team that was the first Welsh team to qualify for the main round of the FA Cup (Aus in der 2nd main round against Queens Park Rangers ). Overall, he completed Swansea's second season as a professional team, in addition to 24 league appearances, six games in the FA Cup and two in the Welsh Cup . He last played for Southend United in 1914/15 .
During World War I , Bassett served in France on the Western Front in the Royal Garrison Artillery . At the age of 32, he died on April 11, 1917 in the Battle of Arras .
