Spencer Silver

Spencer Ferguson Silver (* 1941 in San Antonio , Texas ) is an American chemist who invented Post-it with Arthur Fry in 1970 .

Life

Silver graduated from Arizona State University with a bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1962 and a PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Colorado in 1966 . He then went to 3M as a chemist .

In 1968 he developed an adhesive that made paper stick, but which could then be easily removed by hand. Another 3M employee, Arthur Fry , had the brilliant idea for using it as a sticky note and both received 3M support for product development. Post-it was launched in 1980.

In 1998 he received the American Chemical Society's ACS Award for Creative Invention . He was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame .
